Research Project Fund

The CAIM Research Project Fund aims to support researchers in AI in medicine with innovative project ideas that demonstrate a clear patient benefit and high potential for disrupting current medical procedures.

Funding is awarded by the University of Bern Medical Faculty to promote targeted innovation in AI-driven technologies for healthcare. Funded researchers will become members of CAIM as part of the support agreement.

CAIM Fellowships

In 2023, CAIM is opening a call for CAIM Research Fund Fellowships (CAIM Fellowships) to support early-career researchers with promising career prospects in translational AI in Medicine research.

Submission

Applicants must be employees of the Medical Faculty of the University of Bern or employees of the Insel Gruppe with support from their Head of Department (please provide a letter of support - recommended in any application).

Clinical researchers must demonstrate a technical track record or have a technical collaborator. Non-clinical/technical applicants must have a clinical collaborator. This is to ensure that projects can fulfil the remit of addressing an identified and accepted unmet clinical need.

Proposals can be submitted directly on the designated CAIM Fund Online Portal, using the accompanying Application Form (see below). Applications must be completed in English.

       8 January 2024  Interview of shortlisted submissions
  beginning March 2024  Final notification

Review Process

Applications will be peer-reviewed by national and international reviewers. Reviewer scores will be used to rank applications. A first cut-off will be used to invite top-ranked proposals for a presentation of their project. The selection committee will use the reviewers' comments and the presentation for a final ranking of applications.
